Triskelion Pottery

Another opportunity to talk about one of my favorite things - ceramics! Close to Lachi is a wonderful find called Triskelion Pottery. Home to artists Ara Nigogossian and Nancy Hocking, Triskelion Pottery has earned the reputation of making beautiful high quality replicas of ancient Cypriot ware. After spending years studying and researching the hundreds of Cypriot pots in the British Museum collection, Ara and Nancy moved to Cyprus to set up Triskelion.

Not only do the works made here mirror those from long ago in the Paphos area, but they are also created by the same process and technique - including the same clay sources and firing materials. What I love about Triskelion is the strive for perfection in creating the past and the creativity of the artists behind their work.

The shop, in itself, has an intriguing energy - the replicas are midst oil paintings from freelance artists, handmade jewelry, and the many collections of odds and ends that spark Ara's interest - including rocks, glass bottles, bells and snakes. Yes, I said snakes. It truly is a wonderful place to visit.

My favorites out of the shop - these are very very hard to make because the colors are caused by the heat of different sands during the firing process. The ware is fired in a donkey dung kiln and each pot is set in layers of special colored sands in separate firing bowls - causing the beautiful bands and speckles across the glaze.
I just had to include this one...
Ara's backyard...what a creative person!
