I finally made it! After 23 hours of airplanes and airports, I have finally arrived to my summer destination. Although I had my doubts (which surfaced on my third airplane in one day) I can honestly say that it was all worth it. Not only is the island beautiful, but the projects I will be working on are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. It is going to be a fantastic summer!

The weather is a little chilly with a wonderful sea breeze from the coast but soon enough it will warm up with little cloud coverage and a lot of humidity - the price for living on such a beautiful island!

The dig house where I am staying for the next two months is located in Polis on the north-west coast of Cyprus. A quiet village, Polis consists of local farms and up-scale summer homes visited by both Cypriots and Europeans. Conveniently, this village is also home to many, many archaeological sites where Princeton has placed its accommodations accordingly. Above is the dig house and kitchen - my favorite part is the grape vine canopy connecting the two buildings. To the right is a view outside my bedroom window where I can see a field, the coastline and, on occasion, a flock of sheep. The experience wouldn't be complete without a bug net and sufficient bug spray - which I am finding out is absolutely vital in order to have sufficient sleep and minimal bug bites. In past years hedgehogs have been discovered in the showers - I have yet to see one but will have ample photographs when I do.

A few sheep having an afternoon snack.
The best investment I have made thus far on my trip!!!
