Petra tou Romiou - The Birthplace of Aphrodite

Ahhh...yes. What would the island of Aphrodite be without Petra tou Romiou?! Located off the western shore of Cyprus, this sea stack is believed to be the birth place of the goddess of love and beauty. The water is a deep blue, creating a surge of foam when approaching the coast. In Greek myth Aphrodite was born under very unusual circumstances for a goddess during a family squabble and plotted murder...

Gaia, Mother Earth, plotted with her son Cronus in the murdering of his father - the sky god Uranus. After a momentous struggle, Cronus succeeded in castrating his father - causing his genitals to fall into the Mediterranean sea. White foam appeared atop the waves and where they fell arose a fair woman, riding on a shell out and across the foam. Aphrodite's birth is significant for her lack of parentage giving her equal power and ranking on Mount Olympus with Hera, Athena, Apollo, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hates.

Oh, and lets not forget Uranus' lost pride - his genitals can still be seen in the rock formations strewn across the coast of Petra tou Romiou.
